indian katar

Very rare 19th c. Indian or Afghanistan Temple Sword
This unusual sword is designed in the shape of a cobra. The serrated blade is still quite sharp and is signed both sides, 2 on each side. 2 of the signatures are duplicates. One is written in Arabic: Ali Hero of Allah Victory and Honor. The hilt is the typical shape of a pulouar sword, yet the pommel is unique, perhaps a floral design. Blade is not flat, it is well designed in a lense shape for strength and ends in an armor piercing point symbolic of the cobra's tonque. blade 28.5 inches. 33.5 overall.

c. 1800 Indian Kulah Khud
Exceptional example of an early kulah khud helmet. Most likely reused from a 16th c khud. Bowl is much earlier than the koftgari, nasal etc. Khud was probably remade around 1800. Unusual nasal guard for this type. Brass piece behind the nasal looks within the last 100yrs to cover up the hole in the bowl. helmet is still stable and robust. Riveted chain mail coif is quite fine.

c. 1800 Indian Mail and Plate Helmet
Fine example of a 19th century Indian mail plate helmet. This type was popular from the 17th - 19th century. Not as pretty as the kulah khud helmets, but these were intended for use and at one time had padding and fabric around the camail. The chainmail coif is made from butted links. The side plates could be 17th century, but since the style was popular and mostly unchanged for 300yrs it's hard to say. Traces of red paint on the side plates. Could have been painted red at one point.
